It's Artsy Craftsy Time!!!

I found this really awesome DIY project while I was on stumbleupon.

If anyone knows me, they know that I like to shop.  Well...since moving back home, my closet space hasn't been as abundant as when I was in college.  Therefore...I needed to clean out my closet of all the free shirts/APO shirts/college shirts that I racked up over my 4 years at UT.

Not gonna lie...I really hate parting with my burnt orange shirts and even some of the APO shirts.  But I honestly need the closet space to feed my shopaholic addiction.

Ringlet T-shirt Scarf
-Materials You need:
1. Scissors (sturdy enough to cut through material)
2. 4 T-shirts
3. Ruler
4. Pencil

-Directions
1.  Cut off the hems of each shirt (place them aside, you'll need them later)
(Look at all those hems!!!)

2.  Cut (8) 3/4 in. strips from each shirt (making 32 total strips/loops).  You don't have to precise...just eyeball it...but make sure your strips aren't too thin.  Don't worry too much if the lines are straight.  You'll see why in the next step.

3.  Give each loop a nice stretch (be careful with the stretching...don't break them!).  Remember when I said not to worry if the strips edges aren't straight?  Well...when you pull and stretch them, the sides will curl...no one will notice the uneven edges.
(Don't like my stretching technique?  Sue me...I was multi-tasking.)

4.  Wrap them around your hand to make ringlets

5.  Remember the hems that you placed aside?  Cut them into 5 in. strips.  You'll use them to tie your ringlets together.  Suggestion...when you get them into 5 in. strips...stretch them out a little.  It will make it easier to tie the ringlets together.

6.  Arrange your ringlets into a chain in whatever color combination you want.
(The Eyes of Texas are Upon you...All the Live Long Day \m/)

7. Ta-da!  You have your own DIY scarf! And no sewing was involved!
(Don't mind the trashy romance novels on the left ;-)...do mind the Harry Potter books on the right :-D)

8.  Go raid your relatives/friends/neighbors closets for their old shirts and make more!!!

Hope you had fun making them! And 'Hook 'Em!

(I don't take credit for the creation of this project.)

That's What Friends are for?

Okay, I have this really wonderful friend named Jana...she's kinda awesome.  Let me provide you with a very brief explanation of the start of our wonderful friendship that eventually blossomed into sisterhood (wow...that was quite poetic...if I do say so myself).

My first semester at UT, I enrolled in this Nutrition class that I needed to take to get my degree in nursing.  I guess it wouldn't have been that bad of a class...if my professor wasn't a total...loony?  Yea...there was something not right about her.  Anyways...sometime during the beginning of the semester, at the end of the class period...I heard someone yelling out my name.  Here I am thinking "I'm pretty sure I don't know anyone in the class." But then I made eye contact with Jana, who was waving furiously across the room and I cautiously waved back...thus, the start of our friendship. Mind you, I already met Jana a couple of times before this incident (she was friends with my roommate, Amanda...who is another wonderful person).  I think at this point, we were both glad we weren't going to suffer alone in this class.

Long story short...we became acquaintances, then friends, eventually roommates...and somewhere along the way, she became my sister...from another mother...with a darker color ;-)

Okay, now that we have the (abridged) history of our friendship...lets get to the reason why i'm mentioning her in my blog (I've already told her I was going to do this...sort of).

Jana has the greatest of hopes that I will one day marry an Asian man so I can provide her with full Asian babies.  Yes, you read that correctly...Asian babies...

It's not that I don't like Asian men...it's just that most of the time they look like Asian BOYS...like 12 year old boys...and that just creeps me out.

Anyways...I gently let Jana down, telling her that her dream of one day that I will find an Asian man and settle down with him and provide her with Asian babies will probably not happen.

Until this past summer...

While I was still getting over my jet lag from my Mediterranean cruise...I stumbled upon this cutie while watching a sushi/blue fin tuna documentary on Vanguard (go figure).

His name is Adam Yamaguchi.

Throughout the whole documentary, I couldn't help but think "Hey...he's pretty cute." And then a crush eventually developed...

And a couple of months later...after late night boredom on Youtube...I found our (hypothetically/futuristically) 4 kids...

Ladies and gentlemen...I would like to introduce our twin boys:
And our two little girls:

Yup...those are going to be my future kids one day....

Jana is probably going to shoot me when she sees this...or laugh.

All kicks and giggles aside...Jana is really a wonderful person and I honestly don't know what my 4 years at UT would be like if we didn't meet each other (I guess I have to thank my very first roommie for introducing us).

You'll probably read a lot of our antics in this blog...especially when I feel nostalgic.

Until next time!
